One-day event will offer presentations and discussion, plus tour of new McCourtney Hall
Researchers from Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame will be attending the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (Indiana CTSI) retreat hosted at the University of Notre Dame on Friday, October 21, 2016.
During the event, faculty, students, and other researchers will have the opportunity to present posters and hear from colleagues throughout Indiana. In addition, keynote speaker James Inglese, Principal Investigator of the Division of Pre-Clinical Innovation at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, will speak on the design and implementation of assays for chemical biology and drug discovery. Mark Fox, Dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine – South Bend, will also speak at the event.
“The 2016 Indiana CTSI Retreat is a fantastic opportunity to highlight translational biomedical research and researchers from Notre Dame,” said Richard Taylor, professor of chemistry and biochemistry as well as deputy director of the Notre Dame CTSI. “We look forward to hosting our colleagues from across the state-wide consortium and working together to identify new ways to strengthen and support the entire spectrum of translational research from scientific discovery to improved clinical care.”
At the retreat, Notre Dame researchers will present on a variety of topics that highlight some of the University’s key research areas including global health, cancer metastasis, molecular therapeutics, and much more. Additionally, the attendees will be able to participate in poster presentations, find information on CTSI programs and core facilities, and tour McCourtney Hall, the new research building which houses programs in the molecular sciences and engineering.
“We have an exciting scientific program planned for researchers to enjoy,” said Bruce Melancon, Notre Dame CTSI science research officer and research assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry. “Our retreat, hosted here at Notre Dame, covers a range of translational topics of interest to students and members of the IU South Bend School of Medicine, Saint Mary’s College, Holy Cross College, entrepreneurs from Innovation Park, as well as area health care providers. We invite everyone who has an interest in research from bench to bedside to attend.”

The Indiana CTSI is a statewide collaboration between Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame, as well as public and private partnerships, whose mission is to strengthen and support the entire spectrum of translational research from scientific discovery to improve patient care.
